# Retrieve file

`GET /files/{file_id}`

Returns information about a specific file.

## Path parameters

- `file_id` string, required

## Response `200`

Success. The File object matching the specified ID.

- FileObject
  - `id` string — The file identifier.
  - `object` string — The object type, which is always `file`.
  - `bytes` integer — The size of the file, in bytes.
  - `created_at` string — RFC 3339 datetime string for when the file was created.
  - `expires_at` string — RFC 3339 datetime string for when the file expires. Currently, this is 30 days after the file is created.
  - `filename` string — The name of the file.
  - `purpose` string — The intended purpose of the file. Supported values are `batch`, `batch-output`, and `batch-error`.
