# file a new external document on a case

`POST /case-documents/{docketNumber}/external-document`

Creates a new external document and attaches it to a case. It will also create a work item.

## Response `200`

200 response

- Document — a docket entry response
  - `createdAt` string — date docket entry was created
  - `documentType` string — type of this document
  - `filedBy` boolean — the user name who filed the docket entry
  - `docketEntryId` string — id of rawDocketEntry
  - `userId` string — id of user who created the docket entry
  - `status` string — the status of the docket entry
