# Historical Crypto Fear & Greed Index time series

`GET /api/v1/crypto/fear-greed`

Daily Crypto Fear & Greed Index observations from Alternative.me, the originating publisher of the composite sentiment indicator. The 0-100 score weights volatility (25%), market momentum and volume (25%), social media (15%), Bitcoin dominance (10%), trends (10%), and surveys when available (15%). The index refreshes once per day near 00:00 UTC; Sugra caches responses for 24 hours. Licence: CC BY 4.0.

## Query parameters

- `limit` integer — Number of most-recent daily observations to return. Upper bound covers the full history available upstream since 2018-02-01.
- `date_format` 'us' | 'cn' | 'kr' | 'unix' — Upstream `date_format` parameter. Sugra always returns ISO 8601 UTC timestamps regardless of this value; it is preserved for caller traceability.

## Response `200`

Daily observations ordered newest first, plus the echoed request parameters.

- EnvelopeFearGreedSeriesPayload
  - `data` FearGreedSeriesPayload, required — Historical time series of Fear & Greed Index observations.
    - `name` string — Upstream index label as published by Alternative.me.
    - `observations` FearGreedObservation[], required — Daily observations ordered newest first, as published by the upstream endpoint.
      - `value` integer, required — Composite sentiment score from 0 (extreme fear) to 100 (extreme greed). Cast from the upstream string representation.
      - `value_classification` string, required — Band label for the score. One of `Extreme Fear` (0-24), `Fear` (25-49), `Neutral` (50-54), `Greed` (55-74), or `Extreme Greed` (75-100).
      - `timestamp` string, required — Observation timestamp in ISO 8601 UTC (`YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SSZ`). Normalised from upstream UNIX seconds string. Each observation is anchored at midnight UTC of the observation day.
      - `time_until_update` integer, nullable — Seconds until the next scheduled upstream refresh. Only present on the most recent observation; null on historical rows.
    - `count` integer, required — Number of observations returned in this response.
    - `limit` integer, required — Requested page size (`limit` query parameter) echoed back for caller confirmation.
    - `date_format` string, required — Requested upstream `date_format` parameter (`us`, `cn`, `kr`, or `unix`). Does not affect the normalised ISO timestamp returned by Sugra.
  - `meta` SugraMeta, required — Metadata attached to every /api/v1/* response envelope.
    - `endpoint` string, required — Requested endpoint path.
    - `data_time` string, required — ISO 8601 UTC timestamp of the source data, not of the request.
    - `response_time` string, required — ISO 8601 UTC timestamp when this response was produced.
    - `provider` string, required — API name and version.
    - `source` string, nullable — Identifier of the primary upstream source used for this response.
    - `attribution` string, nullable — Human-readable attribution mandated by an upstream source (e.g. a securities regulator or self-regulatory organization). Present only on responses whose source requires the owner and source to be clearly identified. Do not remove or alter it when using the response.
    - `fallback_used` boolean, nullable — True when the primary source failed and a fallback produced the data.
    - `fallback_chain` string[], nullable — Ordered list of sources attempted, in the order they were tried.
    - `cached` boolean, nullable — True when this response was served from the internal cache.
    - `stale` boolean, nullable — True when the cached response was returned after the upstream rate-limited or errored. Clients can use this to detect degraded data.

## Other responses

- `401` — Missing or invalid `x-api-key` header.
- `422` — Validation Error
- `429` — Daily rate limit exceeded. Check `X-RateLimit-Reset` for the next window.
- `503` — Upstream source is temporarily unavailable. Retry after a short delay.
