# Ocean wave point - significant height / period / direction (NOAA GFS-Wave)

`GET /api/v2/transport/marine`

Nearest-grid-node ocean wave state (significant wave height, primary wave mean period and primary wave direction) for any marine coordinate worldwide, from the NOAA GFS-Wave (WAVEWATCH III) global 0.25-degree model on the Sugra Earth spine. The f000 analysis nowcast. Modelled guidance, NOT of navigational class and not for navigation or safety-of-life at sea; nodes over land / inland water / ice return null.

## Query parameters

- `lat` number, required — Latitude, decimal degrees.
- `lon` number, required — Longitude, decimal degrees.

## Response `200`

Successful Response

- EnvelopeMarineFeed
  - `data` MarineFeed, required
    - `location` MarineLocation, required
      - `requested` MarinePoint, required
        - `lat` number, required
        - `lon` number, required
      - `tile` string, required — The 10-degree spine tile that covers the coordinate.
      - `node` MarinePoint, required
        - `lat` number, required
        - `lon` number, required
    - `cycle` string, nullable — The GFS-Wave cycle this value came from, ISO 8601 UTC.
    - `valid_time` string, nullable — Valid time of the sampled field (f000 == the cycle).
    - `values` MarineWaveValues, required
      - `wave_height` number, nullable — Significant height of combined wind waves and swell, metres; null over land / inland water / ice.
      - `wave_period` number, nullable — Primary wave mean period, seconds; null over land / inland water / ice.
      - `wave_direction` number, nullable — Primary wave direction, degrees; null over land / inland water / ice.
    - `units` object
    - `coverage_note` string, nullable — Set when the node carries no wave data (land / inland water / ice).
    - `provenance` MarineProvenance, required
      - `institution` string, required
      - `model` string, required
      - `grid` string, required
      - `run` string, nullable — Model run (cycle) timestamp, ISO 8601 UTC.
      - `run_kind` string, nullable — Lead kind - v1 serves the f000 analysis nowcast.
    - `methodology` string, required
    - `attribution` TransportAttributionSet, required
      - `sources` TransportSourceAttribution[] — Every sovereign source that contributed to this response.
        - `registry_key` string, required
        - `source_name` string, required
        - `licence` string, required
        - `citation` string, required
        - `disclaimer` string, required
      - `effective_reexport` string, required — Most-restrictive re-export verdict across the sources.
    - `disclaimer` string, required
  - `meta` SugraMeta, required — Metadata attached to every /api/v1/* response envelope.
    - `endpoint` string, required — Requested endpoint path.
    - `data_time` string, required — ISO 8601 UTC timestamp of the source data, not of the request.
    - `response_time` string, required — ISO 8601 UTC timestamp when this response was produced.
    - `provider` string, required — API name and version.
    - `source` string, nullable — Identifier of the primary upstream source used for this response.
    - `attribution` string, nullable — Human-readable attribution mandated by an upstream source (e.g. a securities regulator or self-regulatory organization). Present only on responses whose source requires the owner and source to be clearly identified. Do not remove or alter it when using the response.
    - `fallback_used` boolean, nullable — True when the primary source failed and a fallback produced the data.
    - `fallback_chain` string[], nullable — Ordered list of sources attempted, in the order they were tried.
    - `cached` boolean, nullable — True when this response was served from the internal cache.
    - `stale` boolean, nullable — True when the cached response was returned after the upstream rate-limited or errored. Clients can use this to detect degraded data.

## Other responses

- `401` — Missing or invalid `x-api-key` header. JSON body with a stable `code` distinguishing `missing_api_key` (no header sent) from `invalid_api_key` (header sent, key not accepted); any other 401 source carries the generic `unauthorized` with its detail as `reason`. Plus `hint`. `plan` is always null on 401 - an unauthenticated request has no plan; quota exhaustion is 429, not 401.
- `422` — Validation Error
- `429` — Daily rate limit exceeded. Check `X-RateLimit-Reset` for the next window.
- `503` — Upstream source is temporarily unavailable. Retry after a short delay.
