# Generation by fuel type (EIA-930 / Elexon BMRS / Energinet / ENTSO-E)

`GET /api/v2/energy/grid/fuel-mix`

Generation broken down by fuel type, provider-resolved by region: US balancing authorities hourly from the EIA-930 Hourly Electric Grid Monitor; GB half-hourly per PSR category from Elexon Insights (AGPT); DK1/DK2 hourly per production type from Energinet; selected EU bidding zones from ENTSO-E A75 at native resolution, with production positive and consumption negative. Includes a convenience latest_fuel_mix net snapshot at the most recent period. Operational data, preliminary and subject to revision.

## Query parameters

- `region` string — Region code: EIA balancing authority (US48, CISO, ...), GB, DK1/DK2, or ENTSO-E zone (DE_LU, FR, NL, ES, IT_NORD, PL).
- `frequency` 'hourly' | 'local_hourly'
- `start` string, nullable — Lower bound on period (ISO 8601 or EIA YYYY-MM-DDTHH).
- `end` string, nullable — Upper bound on period.
- `limit` integer — Maximum rows returned across fuel types (newest first).

## Response `200`

Successful Response

- EnvelopeFuelMixFeed
  - `data` FuelMixFeed, required
    - `query` FuelMixQuery, required
      - `region` string, required
      - `frequency` string, required
      - `start` string, nullable
      - `end` string, nullable
      - `limit` integer, required
    - `region` string, required
    - `region_name` string, nullable
    - `unit` string, nullable
    - `resolution` string, nullable — Native series resolution for non-US regions. Null means mixed native resolutions.
    - `count` integer, required
    - `latest_period` string, nullable — Most recent period present in the result.
    - `latest_fuel_mix` object — Convenience net snapshot {fuel_type_code: value} at latest_period. For ENTSO-E, production is added and consumption is subtracted.
    - `rows` FuelTypeObservation[], required
      - `period` string, nullable
      - `fuel_type` string, nullable — Provider fuel-type code, including EIA codes and ENTSO-E A75 PSR types (B01-B20 and B25).
      - `fuel_type_name` string, nullable
      - `business_type` string, nullable — Original ENTSO-E business type when applicable. A75 generation accepts A01, A93 (wind) and A94 (solar); direction is determined separately from the bidding-zone domain side.
      - `direction` string, nullable — ENTSO-E source direction derived from the in-domain or out-domain side. Production values are positive and consumption values are negative.
      - `value` number, nullable
    - `attribution` GridAttributionSet, required
      - `sources` GridSourceAttribution[] — Every sovereign source that contributed to this response.
        - `registry_key` string, required
        - `source_name` string, required
        - `licence` string, required
        - `citation` string, required
        - `disclaimer` string, required
      - `effective_reexport` string, required — Most-restrictive re-export verdict across the sources.
    - `disclaimer` string, required
  - `meta` SugraMeta, required — Metadata attached to every /api/v1/* response envelope.
    - `endpoint` string, required — Requested endpoint path.
    - `data_time` string, required — ISO 8601 UTC timestamp of the source data, not of the request.
    - `response_time` string, required — ISO 8601 UTC timestamp when this response was produced.
    - `provider` string, required — API name and version.
    - `source` string, nullable — Identifier of the primary upstream source used for this response.
    - `attribution` string, nullable — Human-readable attribution mandated by an upstream source (e.g. a securities regulator or self-regulatory organization). Present only on responses whose source requires the owner and source to be clearly identified. Do not remove or alter it when using the response.
    - `fallback_used` boolean, nullable — True when the primary source failed and a fallback produced the data.
    - `fallback_chain` string[], nullable — Ordered list of sources attempted, in the order they were tried.
    - `cached` boolean, nullable — True when this response was served from the internal cache.
    - `stale` boolean, nullable — True when the cached response was returned after the upstream rate-limited or errored. Clients can use this to detect degraded data.

## Other responses

- `401` — Missing or invalid `x-api-key` header. JSON body with a stable `code` distinguishing `missing_api_key` (no header sent) from `invalid_api_key` (header sent, key not accepted); any other 401 source carries the generic `unauthorized` with its detail as `reason`. Plus `hint`. `plan` is always null on 401 - an unauthenticated request has no plan; quota exhaustion is 429, not 401.
- `422` — Validation Error
- `429` — Daily rate limit exceeded. Check `X-RateLimit-Reset` for the next window.
- `503` — Upstream source is temporarily unavailable. Retry after a short delay.
