# Create a new document

`POST /documents`

Creates a new document or layout. Optionally base it on an existing layout.

## Request body

- object
  - `name` string, required — Document name
  - `content_type` string — Type of document to create: 'document' (default) or 'layout'
  - `layout_uuid` string — UUID of an existing layout to base this document on
  - `playbook_uuid` string — UUID of the playbook this document was created for
  - `playbook_run_uuid` string — UUID of the playbook run this document was created during

## Other responses

- `400` — Bad Request - Invalid parameters or malformed request
- `401` — Unauthorized - Invalid or missing authentication
- `403` — Forbidden - User lacks permission to access this resource
- `404` — Not Found - Resource does not exist
- `422` — Unprocessable Entity - Invalid request parameters or validation errors
- `429` — Too Many Requests - Rate limit exceeded
- `500` — Internal Server Error - Unexpected server error
