# Fetch a contact

`GET /contacts/{contact_id}`

Fetch details of a specific contact by its ID.

## Response `200`

Contact details

- XContact — RazorpayX payout recipient. Created before sending payouts.
  - `id` string — Contact ID (cont_*)
  - `entity` 'contact'
  - `name` string
  - `email` string, email
  - `contact` string — Phone number
  - `type` 'vendor' | 'customer' | 'employee' | 'self' — Built-in types only via API; custom types must be created on Dashboard first
  - `reference_id` string — External reference (must be unique per merchant)
  - `batch_id` string
  - `active` boolean
  - `notes` object
  - `created_at` integer — Unix timestamp

## Other responses

- `400` — Bad request. Invalid parameters or missing required fields.
- `401` — Authentication failed. Invalid or missing API key credentials.
- `404` — Resource not found.
- `429` — Rate limit exceeded. Implement exponential backoff with jitter before retrying.
- `500` — Internal server error.
