# Create a project

`POST /projects`

Creates a project in the caller's organization and responds `201` with its detail. Requires organization membership and counts against the plan's `maxProjects` limit. Guest callers are denied.

## Request body

- ProjectCreateRequest — Neither a client config nor a server map is required: the backend seeds both. Requires membership of the target organization, and counts against the plan's project limit.
  - `name` string, required
  - `description` string
  - `organizationId` string — Defaults to the caller's default organization when omitted.
  - `icon` string
  - `visibility` 'public' | 'private'

## Response `201`

The project was created.

- Project
  - `id` string, required
  - `name` string, required
  - `description` string, nullable
  - `icon` string, nullable
  - `organizationId` string, nullable
  - `visibility` string, nullable
  - `role` string — Caller's role on the project, when resolved.
  - `createdAt` number, nullable — Epoch milliseconds.
  - `updatedAt` number, nullable

## Other responses

- `400` — Malformed body or parameters.
- `401` — Missing, invalid, revoked, or orphaned key (`UNAUTHORIZED`) — or the **target MCP server** needs an OAuth grant (`OAUTH_REQUIRED`), which is a property of the server, not your key.
- `403` — Key is valid but not allowed to do this.
- `404` — Unknown project, server, or resource.
- `429` — Per-key rate limit exceeded (60 requests/minute sustained, bursts up to 10). Honor `Retry-After` and back off with jitter.
- `500` — Something failed on MCPJam's side.
- `502` — Could not connect to the target MCP server.
