# New Task Instruction

`POST /v2/tasks/{taskID}/instructions`

This request will create a new Instruction for a Task.

Parameter: type, Type: Int, Required?: Required, Description: The type of each checklist item., 1 = Check Box; 2 = Option List; 3 = Text Box; 4 = Dropdown List; 5 = Date Picker; 7 = Label; 9 = File or Picture Attachment; 11 = Deadline Date Picker; 13 = Number; 14 = Start WO; 15 = Capture Signature., Item types not listed here are not currently supported. If you would like another item type to be supported, please contact us at product@limblecmms.com.
Parameter: instruction, Type: string, Required?: Required, Description: The text that guides a User on what to do on this Instruction.
Parameter: parentInstructionID, Type: Int, Required?: Required, Description: If this is set this Instruction is a 'child' or sub-instruction. This value is the id of the Instruction's parent. A value of 0 means it does not have a parent.
Parameter: parentInstructionOptionID, Type: Int, Required?: Optional, Description: If type is set to 2,4 and a parentInstructionID of an existing option/dropdown list is set then the parentInstructionOptionID needs to be set as the ID of the option for which a child option/dropdown list needs to be added.

## Other responses

- `400` — The request was malformed — either invalid JSON syntax or a validation failure (missing required field, wrong type, etc.).
- `401` — No `Authorization` header was provided on the request.
- `403` — The supplied credentials are invalid, the customer account is inactive, or the credentials do not have permission to perform this action.
- `404` — The referenced resource does not exist or is not visible to the authenticated customer.
- `409` — The request conflicts with the current state of the resource (e.g. a uniqueness constraint or a referenced parent that is in the wrong state).
- `429` — The per-minute or per-hour rate limit for this credential and method has been exhausted. Inspect the `X-RateLimit-*` headers to determine when to retry.
- `500` — An unhandled server-side error. The body message is generic (`System unavailable...`) when the underlying cause is a database fault; otherwise it reflects the raised error.
