# Update a note

`POST /v1/notes/{id}`

Updates an existing note by ID. Only included fields and relationships are modified.

`$account`, `$opportunity`, and `$contact` relationships can be modified via `add` and/or `remove` operations (combined in one call or separately).

Supports idempotency via the `Idempotency-Key` header.

  - `fields` object — Field values to update — only provided fields are modified; omitted fields are left unchanged. See **[Fields and relationships](/using-the-api/fields-and-relationships/)** for value type details.
    - `$title` string, nullable — Title of the note.
    - `$content` string, nullable — Content of the note as markdown formatted text.
  - `relationships` union — Relationship operations to apply. System relationships use a `$` prefix (e.g. `$account`, `$opportunity`, `$contact`); custom relationships use their bare slug. Each value is an operation object with `add` and/or `remove`. `replace` is not supported since note relationships are HAS_MANY.

  - `updatedAt` string, nullable, required — ISO 8601 timestamp of when the entity was last updated, or null.
  - `httpLink` string, nullable, required — URL to view the entity in the Lightfield web app, or null.
  - `externalId` string, nullable — External identifier for the entity, or null if unset.
  - `fields` object, required — Map of field names to their typed values. System fields are prefixed with `$` (e.g. `$name`, `$email`); custom attributes use their bare slug.
  - `relationships` object, required — Map of relationship names to their associated entities. System relationships are prefixed with `$` (e.g. `$owner`, `$contact`).
