# Update metadata taxonomy node

`PATCH /metadata_taxonomies/{namespace}/{taxonomy_key}/nodes/{node_id}`

Updates an existing metadata taxonomy node.

## Path parameters

- `namespace` string, required
- `taxonomy_key` string, required
- `node_id` string, required

## Request body

  - `displayName` string — The display name of the taxonomy node.

## Response `200`

The schema representing the updated taxonomy node.

- MetadataTaxonomyNode — A node object for metadata taxonomy that can be used in metadata templates.
  - `id` string, required — A unique identifier of the metadata taxonomy node.
  - `displayName` string, required — The display name of the metadata taxonomy node.
  - `level` integer, required — An index of the level to which the node belongs.
  - `parentId` string — The identifier of the parent node.
  - `nodePath` string[] — An array of identifiers for all ancestor nodes. Not returned for root-level nodes.
  - `ancestors` MetadataTaxonomyAncestor[] — An array of objects for all ancestor nodes. Not returned for root-level nodes.
    - `id` string — A unique identifier of the metadata taxonomy node.
    - `displayName` string — The display name of the metadata taxonomy node.
    - `level` integer — An index of the level to which the node belongs.

## Other responses

- `400` — Returned if the request parameters or body is not valid. * `bad_request` when the body does not contain a valid request. In many cases this response will include extra details on what fields are missing.
- `403` — Returned when the user does not have the permission to modify the metadata taxonomy. This can happen for a few reasons, most commonly when the user does not have (co-)admin permissions, or the user doesn't have access to the provided namespace.
- `default` — An unexpected client error.
