# POST /assets

`POST /assets`

Creates an asset from an existing asset model. For more information, see <a href="https://docs.aws.amazon.com/iot-sitewise/latest/userguide/create-assets.html">Creating assets</a> in the <i>IoT SiteWise User Guide</i>.

## Request body

- object
  - `assetName` string, required — A friendly name for the asset.
  - `assetModelId` string, required — The ID of the asset model from which to create the asset.
  - `clientToken` string — A unique case-sensitive identifier that you can provide to ensure the idempotency of the request. Don't reuse this client token if a new idempotent request is required.
  - `tags` object — A list of key-value pairs that contain metadata for the asset. For more information, see <a href="https://docs.aws.amazon.com/iot-sitewise/latest/userguide/tag-resources.html">Tagging your IoT SiteWise resources</a> in the <i>IoT SiteWise User Guide</i>.
  - `assetDescription` string — A description for the asset.

Success

- CreateAssetResponse
  - `assetId` string, required — The ID of the asset. This ID uniquely identifies the asset within IoT SiteWise and can be used with other IoT SiteWise APIs.
  - `assetArn` string, required — <p>The <a href="https://docs.aws.amazon.com/general/latest/gr/aws-arns-and-namespaces.html">ARN</a> of the asset, which has the following format.</p> <p> <code>arn:${Partition}:iotsitewise:${Region}:${Account}:asset/${AssetId}</code> </p>
  - `assetStatus` object, required — The status of the asset, which contains a state (<code>CREATING</code> after successfully calling this operation) and any error message.
    - `state` 'CREATING' | 'ACTIVE' | 'UPDATING' | 'DELETING' | 'FAILED', required — The current status of the asset.
    - `error` object — Contains associated error information, if any.
      - `code` 'VALIDATION_ERROR' | 'INTERNAL_FAILURE', required — The error code.
      - `message` string, required — The error message.
      - `details` DetailedError[] — A list of detailed errors.
        - `code` 'INCOMPATIBLE_COMPUTE_LOCATION' | 'INCOMPATIBLE_FORWARDING_CONFIGURATION', required — The error code.
        - `message` string, required — The error message.
