# Update a transfer instrument

`PATCH /transferInstruments/{id}`

Updates a transfer instrument.

Requests to this endpoint are subject to rate limits:

- Live environments: 700 requests per 5 seconds.

- Test environments: 200 requests per 5 seconds.

- Failed requests are subject to a limit of 5 failures per 10 seconds.

- TransferInstrumentInfo
  - `bankAccount` BankAccountInfo, required
    - `accountNumber` string — The bank account number (without separators). When this is provided, the `branchCode` is also required.
    - `accountType` string — The type of bank account.
    - `bankBicSwift` string — The bank's BIC or SWIFT code.
    - `bankCity` string — The city where the bank is located.
    - `bankCode` string — The bank code of the banking institution with which the bank account is registered.
    - `bankName` string — The name of the banking institution where the bank account is held.
    - `branchCode` string — The branch code of the branch under which the bank account is registered. Required when you provide an `accountNumber`. In the following countries, this value corresponds to: * United States: routing number * United Kingdom: sort code * Germany: Bankleitzahl
    - `checkCode` string — The check code of the bank account.
    - `countryCode` string — The two-character [ISO 3166-1 alpha-2](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1_alpha-2) country code where the bank account is registered. For example, **NL**.
    - `currencyCode` string, required — The account's three-character [ISO currency code](https://docs.adyen.com/development-resources/currency-codes). For example, **EUR**.
    - `iban` string — The international bank account number as defined in the [ISO-13616](https://www.iso.org/standard/81090.html) standard.
    - `trustedSource` boolean — Identifies if the bank account was created through [instant bank verification](https://docs.adyen.com/release-notes/platforms-and-financial-products#releaseNote=2023-05-08-hosted-onboarding).
  - `legalEntityId` string, required — The unique identifier of the [legal entity](https://docs.adyen.com/api-explorer/legalentity/latest/post/legalEntities#responses-200-id) that owns the transfer instrument.
  - `type` 'bankAccount' | 'recurringDetail', required — The type of transfer instrument. Possible value: **bankAccount**.

## Response `200`

OK - the request has succeeded.

## Other responses

- `400` — Bad Request - a problem reading or understanding the request.
- `401` — Unauthorized - authentication required.
- `403` — Forbidden - insufficient permissions to process the request.
- `422` — Unprocessable Entity - a request validation error.
- `500` — Internal Server Error - the server could not process the request.
