# Update Contact

`PUT /contacts/{contactId}`

This endpoint updates the information for an existing contact.

This endpoint is rate limited. Use the `RateLimit-*` response headers to check current limits and remaining quota.

- `contactId` string, uuid, required

  - `contactTypeIds` string[], required
  - `firstName` string, nullable — First name of the contact.
  - `lastName` string, nullable, required — Last name of the contact.
  - `crossReference` string, nullable — CrossReference of the contact.
  - `companyName` string, nullable — Company name of the contact.
  - `companyJobTitle` string, nullable — Job title of the contact.
  - `mailingAddress` ContactAddress
    - `street1` string
    - `street2` string
    - `city` string
    - `zipCode` string
    - `state` ContactState
      - `id` integer — The id for the state.
    - `country` ContactCountry
      - `id` integer — The id for the Country.
  - `billingAddress` ContactAddress
    - `street1` string
    - `street2` string
    - `city` string
    - `zipCode` string
    - `state` ContactState
      - `id` integer — The id for the state.
    - `country` ContactCountry
      - `id` integer — The id for the Country.
  - `billingAddressSameAsMailingAddress` boolean — Indicates if the billing address is the same as mailing address

- `400` — Bad Request - The server cannot process the request due to a client error. Common causes: - Invalid request format - Missing required fields - Validation errors in the request data
- `401` — Unauthorized - Authentication is required or has failed. Common causes: - Missing API key - Invalid API key - Expired or deactivated API key
- `404` — Not Found - The requested resource does not exist. Common causes: - Invalid subscription ID - Subscription has been deleted - URL path contains typos or incorrect values
- `429` — Too Many Requests
